Yesterday at the family get together I spoke to Tannie Ria. She remembers Oupa Blighnaut he lived with her family when she was a child. She says he was a quiet man who smiled often.
We disccused that he had been in the Anglo boar war. He was captured and was sent to Ceylon. When he came back he was unable to get work and unable to care for his children. He was a widower and never remarried. His children went to an orphanage.
Les told us that his father Pieter had enlisted in the 2nd world war. He was also a prisoner of war and was sent to Italy. He wondered how father and son understood each other as his father John Peter ( Jan) had fought against the English and now Pieter fought for the English.
I' not sure of the lables on the photo. If any one has any coments. Please let me know
